Houzz Feature: Stylish New Kitchens with Charming Country Details
At Janiczek Homes, we love a project that tells a story. This kitchen, nestled inside a newly built and restored Pennsylvania bank barn in Bucks County, does just that. Designed in collaboration with Hart & Associates Staging and Design and F.L. Bissinger Architects, the new kitchen space features historic charm while infusing modern functionality to create a space that feels both timeless and livable. We’re thrilled that the kitchen at our Bucks County Barn project recently caught the attention of Houzz.com for their article, “7 Stylish New Kitchens with Charming Country Details.”
A Kitchen Designed for Gathering
At about 350 square feet, this kitchen may not be the largest we’ve built, but it’s certainly one of the most impactful. The goal was to create a warm, welcoming space that respects the property’s history while delivering the convenience of a state-of-the-art kitchen. An open concept design allows the kitchen to flow into the surrounding living and dining areas making it perfect for everything from casual family dinners to large-scale entertaining.
Thoughtful Details That Bring the Space to Life
This kitchen is filled with details that honor the home’s original architecture while making it highly functional for modern living.
Reclaimed-Wood Beams – A mix of salvaged and new rustic beams adds warmth and character.
Custom Cabinetry – Finished with hand-painted brushstrokes, these cabinets bring depth and artisanal charm.
Danby Marble Countertops – A natural stone island top chosen for its classic beauty and durability.
Reclaimed Threshing Hardwood Floors – A staple in historic Pennsylvania barns, these floors add richness and warmth.
Exposed Stone Walls – Instead of a traditional tile backsplash, we left the original stone walls exposed, enhancing the home’s rustic charm.
The Challenge: Natural Stone Walls
Every custom home project comes with its challenges, and this one was no exception. Fitting cabinetry against the exposed stone walls required incredible precision. Since stone walls aren’t perfectly even, our craftsmen had to carefully scribe the cabinetry into the stone to fit – a detail you can see at the integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator.
Builder’s Tip: Adding Authentic Character & Charm
When working with an older home or barn conversion, consider leaving stone walls exposed where appropriate. In our Bucks County Barn, leaving the exposed stone in the kitchen added natural character which made the space feel more authentic and connected to its history.
